Jason and Summer Wright, Lead Pastors
Jason and Summer Wright are the founders and Lead Pastors of The Assembly at Kingsport. They were high school sweethearts and were married in 1995. They have 3 children, Nathan, Hallie, and Emma.
The Wrights did not begin their lives together seeking to be in ministry. If anything, they tried to get as far away from it as possible. But after moving to Knoxville, Tennessee for a job opportunity, God began dealing with them about His call for their lives. This led to them being asked to serve as youth/worship pastors on a volunteer basis at Christian Outreach Center in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
That simple act of obedience has led to more than 22 years of full-time ministry. During that time they have led vibrant and growing youth ministries, worship departments, churches and served as missionaries in South America.
In 2017, while serving as missionaries in the country of Chile, they began to feel like there would be a change in their life coming. Upon returning home and praying about God’s will, they accepted an assignment to work in Kingsport, Tennessee as part of the pastoral staff at Kingsport First Assembly. Jason was in charge of the worship/creative arts for the church and also spoke on a regular basis in the main services.
During this last 5 years, they have grown to love the community of Kingsport and believe that God has called them here to lead a strong, dynamic, multicultural church that will reach both the unchurched and those that have fallen away from church for various reasons.
Although Jason will primarily work the church, Summer will continue to practice as a Nurse. She currently works with Holston Medical Group, working as a medicare nurse. She feels that God has called her to the medical field to be a light in the lives of people who may be having their worst day ever.
Their kids are actively involved in ministry as well. Nathan and his wife Breana are working with a church plant in Johnson City (Depot City Church), their daughter Hallie just graduated from The University of Tennessee and has served in the worship department and worked with Kids ministries. Their youngest Emma is a 8th grader at Robinson Middle School and plays oboe in the school band.
